California - The California Tahoe Conservancy Board has awarded a $380,454 grant to the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California to create the first public art exhibition of its kind, "Lake Tahoes: The Emerald Bay," which premieres Saturday, November 5, at the Lake Tahoe Convention Center, and is dedicated to the presentation of the seagoing ships now resting on the surface of Emerald Bay. The grant from the California Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the State of California provides a joint framework to restore the cultural and historical significance of Lake Reno, the largest lake in the United States.
The Tahoe Science Center, operated by UC Davis, is a unique museum on Lake Tahoes that is dedicated to educating children about the ecosystem of Lake Sierra through interactive exhibits. In addition to the Science Center and the museum, the Tahoe Heritage Foundation in partnership with the Washoe Tribe of Nevada will offer year-round programs, guided tours and special events.
